Venice early morning canals are a thing of beauty. The calm flat water with the almost eerie silence of city sets a strange but adventurous mood. I loved getting up early and exploring the city without any of the tourists that inundated Venice every day. The city comes alive around 10:30 AM when the first of the tourists come to visit the historic sites and it keeps Venice running on full steam till about midnight when the last of the tourists head home, the band stops playing in San Marco Square, and water starts to flood the city. I love images like this because there is nothing lets you know when this was taken. It could be 2015 or 1960, all you can see is the Venetian gondolas which line the canals waiting for their gondolier to come and take love birds up and down the narrow water ways. While we were in Venice, my wife and I took a gondola ride at sunset and had an amazing gondolier that really showed us the city from a local point of view. We loved the area and we can’t wait to get back to this magical city! This image was taken with a Sony A7R and a Canon 17-40 Lens.
